My GG Grandfather, John W. SAVAGE (b 1847, d 1918), was the son of Thomas
B. SAVAGE and Margaret F. BAKER of Worcester Co., MD. Thomas B. SAVAGE
(b ca 1799, d after 1850) may have been related to Benjamin SAVAGE,
Zerubbabel SAVAGE, or Ebe SAVAGE. Does anyone know anything about any of
the SAVAGE family of Sussex Co., DE or Worcester Co., MD?

Hi Linda,

There are two families you might want to look at that are both in the 3rd District, 1850 Worcester Co., MD census.

Good luck with your search,

Rob Hall
==================

Generation No. 1

1. Major Coffin was born Abt. 1811 in Delaware. He married Julia A. Hastings Sep 1838 in Worcester Co., MD. She was born Abt. 1819.

Children of Major Coffin and Julia Hastings are:
2 i. Joseph Coffin, born Abt. 1839.
3 ii. Major Coffin, Jr., born Abt. 1841.
4 iii. Richard Coffin, born Abt. 1841.
5 iv. Lemuel S. Coffin, born Abt. 1845.
6 v. Hillery Coffin, born Abt. 1848.

3rd District; HH# 587; headed by Major Coffin, Farmer, age 39.

Generation No. 1

1. Eli Savage was born Abt. 1782 in Maryland. He married Elizabeth 'Unknown' Bef. 1846. She was born Abt. 1825.

Children of Eli Savage and Elizabeth 'Unknown' are:
2 i. Mary Savage, born Abt. 1846.
3 ii. Hannah Savage, born Bet. 1849 - 1850.

Source: Dryden, Ruth T. - transcriber, Worcester Co., MD 1850 Census, (Family Line Publications, Westminster, MD 21157),
3rd District; HH# 54; headed by Eli Savage, farmer, age 68.

Another outstanding aspect of his inventory is that there is also an abundance of carpentry tools which would seem to confirm that he was a carpenter; however, he was not a carpenter. This is evidenced by the fact that Mr. Cugley, two years prior to his death had married Hannah Savage, the widow of a carpenter. Hanna Savage was married to Thomas Savage, who in numerous records was referred to as “Thomas Savage Carpenter”. The fact that there are carpenter’s tools listed in Cugley’s inventory probably indicates that he had moved into Hannah Savage’s house after the marriage. Another way in which Cugley’s inventory is helpful in revealing information about him is by what is NOT listed. There is absolutely no farming equipment, which might indicate that he was not a farmer and did not work the land.
